What it costs
A serious one-bedroom pool villa starts around $350 a night in low season, rising to several thousand for multi-bedroom beachfront estates in high season. We stay in the band where service and maintenance are consistent rather than aspirational.
Where it goes further
The better properties go further: a private chef, a stocked bar, optional butler service, sunrise yoga, and pre-cruise laundry so you board your phinisi fresh.

Location shapes the whole stay — especially if the villa sits either side of a Komodo sailing.
Easiest for cruises
The classic starting point for a Lombok–Komodo sailing, and the simplest logistics if a group arrives on different flights.
Surf, sand & style
Better for a longer stay on the south coast. Allow two to three hours by car to Bangsal, so we suggest it for three or four nights upward.
Island-hop convenience
North-west coast, closest to the harbour where most Gili transfers and many four-day cruise departures are handled.
The setting
It comes down to how you spend the day: walk straight onto sand, watch the sea from height, or trade the coast for quiet altogether.
Straight onto sand
Suits families with small children, honeymooners who walk at sunset, and slow days before heading east.
Height and drama
You trade instant beach access for the view, the privacy and the breeze. Our favourite secluded stays sit here.
Quiet and green
For rest or remote work rather than beach time — and the better choice after a heavy run of diving days.
Villa or resort
Best if you value space, privacy and personal service. Suits couples, families and groups comfortable eating in-villa or at a handful of chosen restaurants.
Better if you want several restaurants on site, a kids club and a more social atmosphere, with someone else running the day.
The hybrid, and the pattern that works
A villa inside a small resort compound gives you private living plus a bar, spa and gym to wander to. The rhythm most of our guests settle on: two or three nights in a villa before a four-day cruise, then four to seven nights in a different setting afterwards.
Service
Daily housekeeping and turn-down, an early-morning gardener and pool attendant, night security, and a manager on call for cruise transfers or a last-minute babysitter.
You pay for ingredients and sometimes a small fee, and eat better and far more flexibly than in a hotel — around early Bangsal departures, late dive returns, or jet-lagged children.
In-villa massage, a yoga deck or open pavilion, and shaded space to stretch. Worth asking about before you book rather than after.
For a month or more it comes down to fibre or a strong backup router, a real desk with power beside it, and quiet during the day — ask about nearby construction.
Tell us dietary requirements before arrival — vegan, gluten-free or halal is routine here, particularly for guests continuing onto a liveaboard. Pet-friendly villas exist but are limited; you want fenced gardens and clear house rules.

A single night after a cruise is a different booking from a month of remote work above the Lombok Strait.
1–4 nights
The night before, stay in Senggigi or near Bangsal for a calm departure. One or two nights after, decompress, handle laundry and repack before flights.

Long enough to justify a second setting — a beachfront week, or a split between the south coast and the north-west.

Rates soften considerably. What matters becomes internet, a workable desk, daytime quiet and easy access to a supermarket and a clinic.

Ask about construction nearby
From around $350 a night in low season for a one-bedroom pool villa, up to several thousand for a multi-bedroom beachfront estate in high season. Group rates often work out close to high-end hotel rooms per person once a chef and shared transfers are counted in.
Senggigi, Mataram or anywhere near Bangsal. Kuta is two to three hours from the harbour by car, so we only suggest it when you have three or four nights there anyway.
Usually, if the layout fits — bedrooms on one level for small children, a shallow pool section, and an enclosed living room you can cool during the heat of the day. Senggigi and Mataram also score best for supermarkets, pharmacies and medical care.
Yes. Look for a flat lawn or deck sized to your guest count, a wet-weather plan, event-experienced staff and a clear event fee. Couples often pair a small ceremony with a short cruise for the same group.
Many do, and it is the single upgrade we recommend most. You cover ingredients and sometimes a small cooking fee, and meals bend around your day rather than a restaurant service window.
